A Princess of Roumania by Paul Parkкнижку не читал, но осуждаю:
Why are Ukrainians portrayed negatively, July 10, 2005
Reviewer: D. Dobrjanskyj (Bayside, NY)
As this book has not been released I can only go by the advanced reviews I have read but as am American of Ukrainian ancestry I am sorely disappointed that once again my ethnicity is the new "bogeyman". It seems that in literature, television and cinema Ukrainains fall into three categories: bungling sidekicks, greed, corrupt gangsters, or inept buffoons. Why is this permissible? Is it because no one takes up the gauntlet for us until now. In this book one of Mr. Park's characters is as one previewer put it a "wierd Ukranain named Kevin Markasev" -- well Mr. Park obvilously did not do any research because unless Kevin's mother was Irish Ukrainians do not name their sons Kevin. Also Markasev is not a typical Ukrainian last name; Ukrainian last names usually end in -enko like Yuschenko, or chuk like Ivanchuk or iuk like Varaniuk. Also to have this character cause the end of the universe as we know it is even more "Ukrainian bashing" albeit fictional than is necessary. While "A Princess of Roumania" may be a good read it is one I will never touch. I think Mr. Park needs to check his anti-Slavic and more specifically anti-Ukrainian rhetoric.

хотя, наверно, основной массе аудитории это всё до лампадки.
