библиотечное дело
Nov. 1st, 2011 08:34 pmAmazon’s program to let libraries lend Kindle books went from a beta in Seattle to a national rollout in late September, announcing that Ama- zon customers ‘‘can now borrow Kindle books from more than 11,000 local libraries in the United States.’’ The statement wasn’t entirely accurate, as library e-book provider OverDrive has not yet activated all their library custom- ers, and some publishers are still questioning whether this program is covered by their exist- ing contracts. There are also concerns about maintaining patron privacy, since by some ac- counts customers will have to log in to Amazon to ‘‘check out’’ Kindle e-books. For those librar- ies that do offer the programs, members should be able to log in to the library’s websites and download books remotely, without having to go to their local branch.
